Iwasrecentlyhavingaverybadday.However,whenIjoinedoneofmymanyteamcallsscheduledforthatday,someonesaidsomethinginthefirstfiveminutesthatmademelaugh.Mymoodinstantlychangedfortherestoftheweek.    Thatevening,Istartedthinkingaboutthepowerlaughterhasinhowweviewtheworldandtreatothers.  Happinessisachoice WhenIwas13andinthehospitalforabrokencollarbone,Iwassoupsetaboutthepainandinconveniencetheinjurywouldcausemeovertheupcomingweeks.Whilemymomwascompletingsomepaperwork,anelderlywomanobservedmemopingandcameovertocomfortme.Shewassocheerfulandfunnythatsheimmediatelymademefeelbetter.  Ilearnedduringourconversationshehadjustlostherhusbandtocancerwithinthelast24hours.IwassoconfusedbyhercheerfulmoodthatIpepperedherwithquestions.Withahugesmileonherface,shequoted Proverbs17:22: “Acheerfulheartisgoodmedicine,butacrushedspiritdriesupthebones.”    Althoughithasbeenmorethan35yearssincemyencounterwiththecheerfulwomanwhojustlostherhusband,Istillrememberitlikeitwasyesterday.Sincethen,IhaveconstantlybeenremindedofwhatSolomonassuresusofin Proverbs17:22.  Positivethoughtshelpcreateabetteroutlook Positivethoughtsleadtoapositiveoutlookwhichleadstoapositiveheartandapositivelife.Negativethoughtsleadtoabrokenspirit,whichimpactsourminds,emotionsandourlives.  ItismyhopeandprayeryouallremembertotaketimetolaughandbecheerfuleverydayasGodcommandsit.Infact,GodtellsustobehappymoretimesinScripturethananyothercommand.Commandssuchas“rejoice,”“beofgoodcheer,”“donotbeafraid,”“givethanks,”theseareallwaysofGodtellingustobehappy. “IhavesettheLordalwaysbeforeme;becauseheisatmyrighthand,Ishallnotbeshaken.Thereforemyheartisglad,andmywholebeingrejoices;myfleshalsodwellssecure.”–Psalm16:8-9 WrittenbyJeffGentry,seniorvicepresidentandchieffinancialofficeratBucknerInternational.
