Margaret.I.Ike-Ogbonna,Daniel.I.Jwanbot,Emeka.E.Ike Abstract Toensurethatradiationdosesreceivedbybothpatientsandmedicalstaffarekeptaslowasreasonablyachievable.QualityAssuranceprogramimplementationinconventionaldiagnosticradiologyisnecessary.Theexposurefactorsofthex-raymachineneedtobecheckedfromtimetotimeasrequiredbytheInternationalCommissiononRadiologicalProtection (ICRP).Inthisresearch,assessmentofthetubeoutputvariationwithkVpaccuracy,reproducibilityandconsistencyindiagnosticx-rayunitsofsomeselectedhospitalsandradiologycentresinJos,PlateaustatewerecarriedoutusingGammexdigitalkVmeterwithmodelnumber:330.Eighthospitalsx-rayunitsandfourradiologycentreswerestudiedandthetestforkVpaccuracy,kVpconsistencyandkVpreproducibilitywereconductedonthex-raymachinesatvariedkVandmAssetonthecontrolpanelatafocustofilmdistanceof10m.Fromtheresultsobtained,sevenx-rayunits(58%)hadvaluesrangingfrom(1.78to4.26)withinthetolerancelimitof±5%inkVpaccuracywhilefivex-rayunits(42%)wereabovethetolerancelimit.InkVpreproducibilityeightx-rayunitshadvaluesrangingfrom(1.52to9.78)withintherecommendedtolerancelimitof±10%,whilefourx-rayunitswereabovetherecommendedtolerancelimitwithvaluesbetween(-13.30%to15.86%)andinkVpconsistencywiththerecommendedtolerancelimit±5%,67%ofthex-rayunitswereallwithinthetolerancelimitwithvaluesrangingfrom(-0.8to-5.0)but33%hadvalues(5.3to18.1)ofhighdeviationsoutsidethetolerancelimit.ThisshowthatthesetvalueofexposurefactorkVfromthecontrolconsolegivesvalueswithinthetolerancelimitforabout67%ofthestudiedx-raymachine,meaningthereisagoodqualityassuranceprogrammeinplacemostofthediagnosticx-rayunitsstudied.  FullText: PDF Copyright(c)2017EdupediaPublicationsPvtLtd ThisworkislicensedunderaCreativeCommonsAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike4.0InternationalLicense.  AllpublishedArticlesareOpenAccessat https://journals.pen2print.org/index.php/ijr/ Papersubmission:[email protected]
