Insomestates,thereare,however,“fetalassault”lawsthatmakeitillegaltouseopiatesduringpregnancy.Tennessee,Alabama,andSouthCarolinahavesuch“fetalassault”lawswhichcreateadisincentiveforpregnantwomentoseekhelpfortheirpregnancies. Pregnantwomendonotwanttofaceprisontimeandlosingtheirchildrensothereisadisincentivetoseekhelpwiththepregnancy.Yet,withouttheinterventionofthehealthcarefacility,thechildislikelytosuffermoreandhavelastinghealthissues.
